Do you need a standalone wallet loyalty platform if your POS already has loyalty?

Sometimes no. If your point-of-sale system already includes a loyalty program you like, and a card in the customer's wallet is not important to you, enabling what you already pay for may be the simpler choice. This page sets out when that is true and when a separate wallet card is worth having.

The short answer

POS Loyalty vs a Standalone Wallet Loyalty Platform
You do not need a separate platform if your POS loyalty module does what you want, your customers are happy being looked up by phone number at the till, and wallet presence does not matter to you. A standalone wallet loyalty platform is more relevant when you want a branded card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, want loyalty kept separate from the POS, do not want to migrate POS, want a stamp or membership structure rather than POS points, or want customer-facing wallet visibility and notifications.

Criteria

Loyalty inside your POS vs Standalone wallet card, criterion by criterion.

What the customer carries

Loyalty inside your POS

Usually nothing; they are looked up by phone number, barcode card or receipt

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

A branded card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet

Loyalty format

Loyalty inside your POS

Typically spend-based points; stamps are rare in POS modules

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Stamp, rewards, cashback, coupon, discount, membership, gift, multipass

Recording a visit

Loyalty inside your POS

At the till as part of the sale, often automatically

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Staff scan the wallet card with the Loyal-T Cards scanner; not automatic

Redemption

Loyalty inside your POS

Often applied to the bill automatically

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Staff redeem through the scanner and apply the reward at the till manually

Cost

Loyalty inside your POS

Included on some plans, an add-on on others, free on some POS

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

US$660 per year for one location, setup included

Dependence

Loyalty inside your POS

Tied to the POS vendor and plan

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Independent of the POS; survives a POS change

Notifications

Loyalty inside your POS

SMS or app where the POS offers it; wallet notifications not typical

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Wallet notifications where configured

Setup

Loyalty inside your POS

Enable the module, configure rules, train staff

Standalone wallet card (Loyal-T Cards)

Loyal-T Cards prepares the card and structure and onboards your team

When POS loyalty is enough

If you are already paying for a POS plan that bundles loyalty, the points engine matches what you want to reward, redemption applied to the bill suits your counter, and your customers do not mind giving a phone number, then enabling it is the least effort and often the least cost. Adding a second system in that situation adds a second workflow for no clear gain.

  • You want points as a currency with automatic discounting at the till
  • You are content with phone-number or receipt-based redemption
  • Wallet presence and notifications are not a priority
  • Your POS plan already includes loyalty at no extra charge

When a standalone wallet card earns its place

The POS modules we reviewed identify customers at the till rather than giving them something to carry. A wallet card gives the customer a branded pass on their phone that shows progress and can receive a notification. That matters if you want to be visible between visits, if you want a stamp or membership structure the POS does not offer, or if you want loyalty to stay yours when you change POS.

Loyal-T Cards is a standalone platform: it does not integrate with, read from or write to any POS. Staff scan the card to record a visit and apply any reward at the till themselves. That is a deliberate separation, and it has a cost: a redemption is a manual step, not an automatic discount.

  • You want a branded card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet
  • You want loyalty separate from the POS, or you may change POS
  • You want stamps, membership or multipass rather than POS points
  • You want customer-facing wallet visibility and notifications

The honest trade-off

POS loyalty wins on automation: the sale records the points and the discount applies itself. A wallet card wins on presence and independence: the customer carries your brand and the program does not belong to your POS vendor. If automatic discounting at the till is non-negotiable, POS loyalty is the better tool and Loyal-T Cards is not the right fit.

Decision

Which one is right for your business?

Stay with POS loyalty if

  • Your POS plan already includes loyalty and it does what you want
  • You want points and discounts applied automatically at the till
  • Wallet presence and notifications are not important to you
  • You do not want a second workflow at the counter

Add a standalone wallet card if

  • You want a branded card in the customer's wallet
  • You want a stamp, membership or multipass structure your POS does not offer
  • You want loyalty to be independent of your POS vendor
  • Your POS has no loyalty module, or charges for it as an add-on

Common questions

No. Loyal-T Cards does not integrate with, read from or synchronise to any POS, booking or ordering system. Staff record loyalty activity with the scanner and apply rewards at the till themselves. If you need loyalty tied to the sale, a POS module or a platform with a named integration is the better fit.
It differs by plan. At the time of review Foodics' UAE pricing listed loyalty as an optional add-on on the Starter and Basic bundles and as an included feature on the Advanced bundle. Check the current bundle page for your plan.
You can, but two programs at one counter confuse staff and customers. Most businesses choose one. If the POS module stays, use the wallet card only for a structure the POS cannot do, such as a stamp card or a membership pass, and keep the rules distinct.
At the time of review neither offered payment processing in the UAE: Square lists Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Japan, Spain, the UK and the US; Toast operates in the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK and Australia. A UAE business naming them is usually describing something read about rather than used.
Loyal-T Cards Annual costs US$660 per year for one business location, with platform setup, a branded Apple Wallet and Google Wallet card, the initial loyalty structure, QR materials and team onboarding included. There is no monthly plan and no per-customer or per-card fee. Compare that against what a POS loyalty add-on costs you in printing, staff time, development or subscription over the same year.
